Is there a significant difference in sound quality from a 6sst to 28b3? Is it the bigger brother, so to speak?

Hi Ollie

I guess it comes down to how you define 'significant'.

When you get into gear at the performance quality level of Bryston the differences between different series of amplifiers are valid but are not a night and day difference.

So a lot will depend on the resolution capabilities of the rest of the system and frankly the sophistication or expectations of the listener as to the 'value' of the performance differences.

What I can tell you is the performance parameters (signal to noise, IR rejection, Harmonic and IM distortion etc.) of the Cubed versions of the amplifiers are improved over the previous series of amplifiers.

I found the difference from the 28SST to 28B3 to be profoundly better.

Would you consider it to be an upgrade to change from 6sst and 3sst to the 9b cubed?
It’s not just for movies, I often listen to music, so 2 channel is equally important to me.

Hi Ollie,

I assume you are using the 6B in Stereo on the front 2 channels?

If so then my only concern depending on the power requirements of your speakers would be that the 9B Cubed would not have enough drive capability.

The better option would be a 4B Cubed on the front left/right and use the 6B on the Center and Surrounds.

Yes, I just came across some second hand 7b cubed and was thinking thinking of keeping the 6sst for the center speaker and surround. Excellent, thanks.
