Still The Best
The latest review - conclusion from Jon Iverson still state the Meridian Sooloos is STILL the best amongst all.
Sorry guys, cant help it! Here's the extract from July Stereophile: "Four years after my first review of the Sooloos system, I still don't think there's a better overall music-server system for the music lover and audiophile who wants to do away with the clutter of CDs and iTunes. I've seen and heard some pretty good mashups of DIY and commercial software and hardware, many of which now use iPads for control. But I've yet to come across anything that, overall, beats a Control 15–based system—especially if you've got lots of music.—Jon Iverson"

Jerry... Sorry to pop your balloon, but I think that's about to change with the intro of Burmester's 111

operationally, the sooloos is one slick cat
BUT unless they have changed their tune, the lack of processing above 24/96 is a MAJOR limitation and as such results in disqualification as the BEST music server on the planet

The 111's processing is upgradable as technology & content advances.

If I am not wrong, the 192/24 is on the way ....
As to Burmester changing the game ... well, I beg to differ today as I have yet to do a one for one comparison. Its slick, nice and great but also ultra expensive. Anyway, its not the price but the performance. Till I get an earful, I'll leave it at what it is today as "un-reviewed territory for the Burmester". Maybe it is ... but I'll wait for the comparison before jumping to conclusions!

I'm willing to wager that the Burmester GUI will be beaten by Sooloos handsdown.
Nothing above 24/96? Doesn't bother me. Red book sounds fabulous on my system. I have no need to go downloading expensive 24/192 Even if Sooloos introduces 24/192, which I doubt, HD tracks will still get little business from me. |

I concur with Jon Iverson. I searched long and hard but it's simply the best experience (Burmester have Top Picks, Focus and Swim?) and the soundquality of the 861v6/818/808.3 with streaming cards is simply amazing.

I was offered a great deal by the Dealer...I was very, very, very close to purchasing a Meridian Sooloos system...but a disappointing demo with the iPad app and testimonials on a Meridian user site killed it for me. The Control 15 is an impressive piece of kit...but I don't have the room for it and frankly, for the long term, Meridian is going down a path that doesn't meet my needs.
I guess that when solid state storage hits the 2TB mark in the very near future the game is going to change...and I'm very curious on how the music server market will evolve. |

Those of you who use them regularly will need to jump in but when I tried using the unit I found no benefit of a touchscreen nor did I like dragging and dropping music for playing. Jim |
