My first McIntosh is what I currently have now. Had it for 10 years and except for a minor hiccup is still going strong.

More light to read by! :-). I started with the 352 and a pair of B&W 803d - and ran into issues with the amp getting hot - and not at high output levels. My local dealer facilitated a move to the 452 and that was an improvement. Then Ivan tossed a pair of his 1.2kw into the forum and that was that. The 452 is great amp and I probably would have stayed with that if not tempted by a great deal from a trusted source on big mono blocks with huge blue meters.

My first was a MC2300 in the early part of the ‘70s. I also had a Sansui BA3000 and a BA5000 around the same time.

I got off on the wrong foot with Mcintosh with the first couple of pieces I owned. I had an mc250 that I didn't care for and then an mx110 that I wasn't thrilled with either. So for a few years afterwards I avoided Mcintosh gear until an mc2500 arrived here. That old 2500 changed my feelings towards Mcintosh as I really liked that amp. Since then I've been pretty much hooked on Mcintosh gear.

This forum lead me a stray and into the world of McIntosh. It wasn't the big blue meters or the lighted glass, it was the connectivity and the switches. I bought an MA6600 and the glass and meters grew on me. A few years later and it was back to separates with a C2500 / MC452. If I had the room I'd join the 611 club

Mc452
Dynophile..... So you bought a new MC452 10 years ago? That was at the beginning of its production run. How has it served you? The 452 is our biggest stereo amp, so I'd be very interested in any feedback you'd be willing to share with the thread.

Mc602
Mack..... I've heard the MC1.2KWs in action, so no need to ask you about them...but how about your monster stereo amp, the MC602? How long have you had it and how has it served you. We had a good chance to buy one last year, but transportation became an issue, so...

I think the sound profile of the 452 and the 1.2 are similar...and only diverge when you push the volume up. Both are quiet, quick and very slightly warm. The 352 is not in the same category, imho. My evolution from 452 was more opportunity driven than by any anticipated substantial sonic improvement.

Yes, I bought the MC452 new at the beginning of the production run. It has served me well but recently had to have it repaired since one of the capacitors was leaking. Now everything is back to normal and sounds perfect.
