Is this a sign of the Apocalypse?
Barnes & Noble has started selling vinyl. A really really small selection, more like a novelty, and somewhat overpriced, but it somehow felt like a seismic shift when my son pointed it out to me. My debit card was severely damaged.

I used to buy around $100 of CDs from them every two weeks or so, until I bought everything they had that I wanted. Anyway, I used to look at their Blue Rays and was amazed they sold any since they were all at the ridiculous list price.

Is this a vinyl thing, the unlikely combo of vinyl and B&N, or a turntable thing (you may still be in a honeymoon with your Classic 3, so any new vinyl is seductive, especially in an unlikely place)? Note how easily you succumbed.

I've had nice vinyl rigs up to my mid 30's (last one was a Sota Sapphire) and now again for the last two years (best rig I've had yet and sounding superior to my digital player and server), so no that wasn't it. And I buy vinyl on a regular basis (mainly on the internet because brick and mortar record stores are few and far between in Houston - the best being Black Dog Records) - so that wasn't it. No it was the combination of a large national chain that has been significantly scaling back CD music sales due to competition from iTunes and streaming services suddenly selling this supposedly outmoded format for music delivery. And I succumbed easily due to the 2 glasses of wine I had with dinner and the fact that the tiny selection was first rate and included a lot of records I wanted in my collection, including Al Green and the new Robert Plant (I also get a small discount from retail with my B&N membership). But bottom line was I wanted to support the sale of vinyl through a new channel of distribution hoping (likely in vain) that they will expand their selection.

And bravo on your bottom line reason! BTW, I bought an LP from Black Dog while visiting my sister in Houston some years back. Nice selection. They sell turntables also, right?

"New and slightly used" is what they advertise. And I think the turntable my brother almost bought was a Clearaudio. I remember it looked like one of theirs. Not expensive, either.
