Fuses
I recently upgraded all fuses in my disc player, preamp, and poweramp to HiFi-Tuning fuses. They are make of pure silver with gold-plated caps and non-resonating ceramic body. I think they are nice improvement over the stock ones. For about 25-30 bucks per piece, they are a bargain.
Since fuse is the first component between the power cord and the equipment, why change to an expensive power cord without a high quality fuse? *flame suit on* |

The best description would be.. everything sounds more clean now. Better separation between instruments etc.

I just upgraded my eight fuses to Isoclean...
Four in the SCD-1... One in VTL Super Deluxe Preamp... One in each VTL 80 watt monoblock... One in BP conditioner... Here are my listening notes: Increased dynamics. Very neutral natural sound. Very low noise. Extended frequency range. Excellent low level detail. Harmonically full and rich sound. Reviews: 6moons audio reviews: IsoClean audio-grade fuses 6moons industry featres: IsoClean - truly comprehensive power delivery solutions isoclean User Reviews: This gentleman goes into great detail and even uses an oscilloscope for noise checking. The link has two reviews of two brands by the same author. I like one of his remarks: he basically says these fuses are like miniature Power Conditioners... I'm glad you also find high quality fuses a worthy upgrade. Furutech, Hifi Tuning, and Isoclean all make great fuses.

I found basically the same thing when I installed a HiFi Tuning fuse in my ARC LS26. I have Magnepan speakers that have in-line fuses in the crossover network. When I tried HF Tuning fuses there the result wasn't so good. Muddy sound, compressed dynamics, just an over all degradation. But when I installed ceramic body fuses in the Maggies things really sounded great compared to the HiFi Tuning and stock glass body fuses. I think the main benefit is probably due to the reduction of microphonics from the ceramic body.

I just came across this article regarding fuses. I was gonna start a thread in the 'tweaks' section but see that TommyC already has.
Thoughts? StereoTimes HiFi tuning fuse

Anyone else have an opinion on upgrading fuses? I have done it and thought it sounded cleaner but it may have been pseudo effect. I have seen the question been asked to the designer of a very popular DAC and his reply was... if you want to spend $35 on something that costs $2 go ahead but it should not effect the sound. Then I read stuff from the fuse manufacturers that state to listen to the fuse for a while than reverse it and listen. Are you telling me that a fuse is directional??? I can indeed hear a difference with a well made heavy gage power cable vs the stock one but while the idea makes sense I am not sure the fuse has that much impact on the sound. Just looking for some other opinions.
