Default Sonos Music Server...This thing is amazing !

Ok, Today I had a question on how to get music on my new laptop to work with the sonos. I went onto the sonos website and clicked on live chat. Someone came on and asked to take control of my computer. Within a minute everything was working perfect. This is customer service like it should be. Now that I have a laptop with a 500 gig hd I have my music all recorded losslless on the same machine that I use as my controller for the sonos. This works great because when I buy a new cd I load it into my itunes library and its available on the sonos. I like being able to create genious playlists in itunes and use them on my sonos. When I am in the pool I can pull anything in my library up with my iphone or ipod touch . The quality to me really does sound as good as the cd through the MCD500, it truly is a audiophile bargain. It is amazing to me that with a laptop running itunes and iphone/ipod touch via the sonos controller software you have fabulous music server that can be considered a near equivalent to the sooloos for $300.

I agree great service. They had to help me set up file sharing when I did have my iTunes library in the loop.

Don't compare the Itunes interface with SooLoos, but the sound quality could actually be better.

When I compare lossless via the music server going through the MCD500 vs the cd on the MCD500 with both sources adjusted to the same volume it is near impossible to tell the two apart.

Sorry, how I meant that to come out was depending on how you saved your CD in Itunes the sound quality is probably better than if it was saved on a SooLoos.

Actually AIFF would be better since it is supposed to be bit for bit, no compression as in a lossless format.

still not sure why people are so in love with these. They are way overpriced and limiting.

for $999 i could buy a mac mini an i pod touch and 2 airport express wap's

would do everything the sonos package does plus the mac mini is a multimedia server allowing video/internet/many othr things and the ipod touch allows me to take my music with me, download cool apps etc....

Where did you come up with $999 ? That is for 2 zones and a remote. You can buy a zp90 for $300. The sonos does way more than play your music collection, it does rhapsody, pandora, satellite radio, FM radio, LastFm, Napster and it lets you link multiple zones. You should do a little research before you decide it is no good; everyone here who has one, loves it

i have done my research and yes a mac does all that as well - and Much Much more.

Plus people often forget that a sonos by itself is useless you need a pc or laptop or some storage device which adds to the cost. i think people love the sonos because it is "easy" and they are not aware of what can be done with a little work.
