Default Decca Sound: Dutoit · Montréal

Keep finding gems in this box...

Decca Sound: Dutoit · Montréal
Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Charles Dutoit

Holst: The Planets, Op. 32
Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Charles Dutoit

A Gramophone Award winner for engineering. This disc shakes the wall in my listening room in a good way (who said Magnepan does not put out bass? ).

Johann Sebastian Bach - Transcriptions André Isoir
Michel Bouvard / François Espinasse, organ
Qobuz 24/96

Almost overpowering sound, it is as if you are in the church.
A serious workout for your system and speakers!
Playing is fabulous, these transcriptions are a joy to hear.
I hear a lot sub 30 Hz here...

Pachelbel - Froberger - Muffat - Kerll - Fischer - Organ Music Before Bach
Kei Koto
Qobuz 24/96

Not only are these wonderful pieces.
This album is another definitive test for your speakers.
The Ciacona in D Minor from Pachelbel (second piece on thsi album) has thundering bass, maybe the most bass heavy music I have heard on my system.
This album was a suggestion from Cédric, my amp maker.

Default Beethoven: The Solo Concertos

This set...

Beethoven:
Piano Concertos Nos. 1-5 (complete)
Stefan Vladar (piano)
Romance No. 1 for Violin and Orchestra in G major, Op. 40
Isabelle van Keulen (violin)
Romance No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra in F major, Op. 50
Isabelle van Keulen (violin)
Triple Concerto for Piano, Violin, and Cello in C major, Op. 56
Stefan Vladar (piano), Isabelle van Keulen (violin) & Julian Steckel (cello)
Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61
Isabelle van Keulen (violin)
Wiener KammerOrchester, Stefan Vladar

...is remarkably good.

My initial impression has not changed:
Quote:
The smallish orchestra sounds wonderful and is extremely transparent allowing each instrument to shine. The piano playing is crisp and elegant helped by the exceptional recorded sound easily capturing the magic between Vladar and his chamber orchestra. I'm not throwing my Andsnes and Aimard sets away, but this newcomer is outstanding. Can't wait to hear the rest.
