Sunfire-TGM stores up to 6TB from Enjoy the Music
Sunfire, manufacturer of home audio and theater products, announced that their Theater Grand Media System (TGM) is now shipping ($6,500 on up depending on configuration). The TGM system is a high performance, modular and scalable media server for music and movies with storage options ranging from one terabyte up to six terabytes. The TGM-100 system is as easy to use as it is sophisticated. Customers load their collection of DVDs and CDs onto an enterprise-level storage solution. Artist, album, genre, film, director, even cover art, are downloaded automatically, making it a breeze to sort through extensive collections. A unique layered approach employs multiple online sources, such as Gracenote, AMG, and GD3 for the highest quality metadata. An attractive TV interface provides intuitive and instant access to the collection - all at users' fingertips from the comfort of users' favorite listening chair. The TGM system is designed to work with all current ELAN Touch Panels. An independent User Interface allows whole-house control from wired and wireless panels. Due to its tight integration with ELAN control systems, the Theater Grand Media system will also be available to select ELAN dealers. The TGM-HD1 can start out with 'only' one terabyte of RAID 1 storage, though can be ordered or expanded with much more storage space as desired. TGM-HDC iSCSI chassis is an enterprise-grade RAID 6 hard drive solution, fully customized for the CI industry, with critical application performance only seen in financial, medical and scientific markets. This platform boasts dual redundant hardware that creates a real-time backup of precious libraries. Dual redundant, field replaceable power supplies, fans, and hard drives ensure that that the system will always perform on demand. And scalability means that users are able to increase capacity as libraries or families grow - up to 1,800 movies or many thousands of CDs. Audio performance features multiple channels of 24-bit/192kHz for audiophile quality playback.

Klipschfan.......Interesting. This may be the way McIntosh goes with the next version of their servers. It only makes sense to be able to expand, and include video libraries.

Not sure what the next McIntosh MS will be, but right now I am enjoying the MS750/MDA1000 combo and would never go back to a single disc CD player. Built in WI-FI and an easier back up interface would be a nice start for the next MS generation. |

The next generation MS will have to rise to the leading edge to be a success, in my opinion. Both the MS300, and the MS750 are a bit long in the tooth, particularly at the present price point for the MS750.
I would like to see a McIntosh server with 50 GB RAM internal memory that would store hard drive output directly, while streaming from RAM directly to Saber 32 bit DACs producing zero jitter. The server would include Ethernet 10/100 network interface and pass through for full funtion with all streaming Internet services. The Hard drive frame would include two 2TB continuous duty hard drives set up in redundant RAID fashion so all file backups would be automatic on the second drive. The MS frame would allow four additional 2TB RAID redundant hard drives to be user installed, and hot swappable. The file formats would allow for high rez audio in two channel, and up to 7.1 channels, bit for bit, WAV, FLAC, Apple Lossless, and MP3, as well as video support for output up to Blu-Ray resolution on HDMI. This next gen MS would include a full color XGA LCD hand held universal programmable remote, WiFi connected, that allows full access to the MS, and 100% compatable with all McIntosh code sets. The MS will have a dual layer DVD player/burner, backward compatable with all CD formats. The new MS will continue to be designed around the black glass and aluminum side rail aesthetics. This new MS will retail for $XXXK.00. What do you think? Am I close?

Mac has never been one for modularity. They like you to have to buy a new tech box every few years.
It would be nice to have separate NAS support...
