I agree. This type of marketing is likely to have the reverse effect of a sale.

Also we do not raise prices because product does not sell. In fact (touch wood) we have just had the best 6 months of sales in the history of our company.

One of the things I do not understand about these boards is why people find it so easy to attack and denigrate companies and people?

James, correct me if I am wrong I didn't notice the US dollar plunging 25% against any currency but I did notice the Canadian dollar plunging against the US dollar... I fully understand Bryston being based out of Canada has felt the pressure of this event.

While I am sure you would have rather heard the usual praise and congrats on all your gear winning best of this and best of that award, maybe you were even expecting a praise for the price increase as well.

Now, expressing the obvious, that price increases in general and not just audio toys while the economy is not exactly healthy, that the consumer is not willing or able to spend money on audio toys or other non-essential and trivial things when there are more pressing issues such as mortgages, unemployment, etc during rough economic times is not exactly denigrating companies or people in my book.... Of course it is my opinion, maybe others have a different view on this.

About this time last year the Canadian dollar was worth about 75 cents U.S.
Right now it is worth about 95 cents U.S.
As a Canadian consumer that works in our favor for products made in the U.S.
But it also works against Canadian manufacturers whose largest market is the States. I think Bryston is just trying to offset some of that loss.

Hi Folks,

I can assure you we do not arbitrarily set our prices at Bryston based on what the market will bear – our largest market is the US and we have to look at the US dollar and its value as a large part of the profitability of our company.

What I can tell you is no one at Bryston is getting rich manufacturing and selling high quality audio equipment. We do it for the best price we can and still be able to continue in business and we do it because we love what we (I) do and I thank my stars everyday I can earn a living doing something I love.

James

James.......Bryston is a great company making excellent high-end audio products. Naturally, no one likes to see prices going up, but we all understand the nature of the economic beast. It's not just your company feeling the pinch, and Mac fans are waiting for the hammer to drop on McIntosh retail products, as well. Price increases happen to everything. Please don't take the bitching personally. Most of us like to gripe just for the fun of it. In some peculiar way it seems to make us feel better.

Contrary to what is politically correct thinking, it is OK for you to get rich while doing an honest job. It is a big bonus if you can do it at something you love to do.

What's the old saying in wine (that seems to work well in high end audio)?

How do you make a small fortune in high end audio?

Start with a large fortune.

It's because of frustration.

Once we stand slack-jawed before your latest masterpiece, we will forget our misgivings about the price increase and the wallet will spill forth.

In this economy I have found great deals, discounts off new gear between 30%-70% of MRSP. In other words a higher MRSP has been away for dealers to make customers feel better about a purchase . I have not purchased Bryston but you can find great deals on every other brand that I have including: JL subs, Mcintosh, Sonus Faber.

To me, complaining about price increases is like talking to a wall.

When was the last time you saw a manufacturer announce, across the board, prices would roll back to what they were " back in the day"?
