I found that the choice of phono cables as well as the cables from the A23 SUT to the preamp dramatically affected the ground noise. After swapping some cables around I managed to resolve these issues. I second the recommendation to move it around - it's very sensitive to EM, so you'll want to keep it distant from any PSUs or wall warts.

Shindo 0.5m interconnects and somewhat careful placement and the A23 SUT is as quiet as the MC input with the built Lundahl stepup.
You can connect both the A23 ground and the phonocable ground to ground on your Giscours (=star grounded). |

Jerome, Definitely try this... Both my A23 and phono are grounded to the Giscours.

Star grounding ( connecting both the ground of the phono cable and the ground of the A23 to the Giscours ground) helped clearly.
Still a small noise in the tweeters with volume at max but I never go there of course. I also moved the A23 from the back of the Giscours to a dedicated shelf available below the TT. ( Where the REF 2 was sitting indeed) It is funny to see this small thing on a dedicated shelf ! Will also try with changing the IC from the A23 to the Giscours. I believe the shorter the better ? Someone suggested a Shindo 0.5 m IC. I wonder what is the difference in sound and price between Shindo and A23 cables ? Sent from my iPhone using A.Aficionado

Just to make it clear, I was comparing the sound of the 103 direct in the MC of my preamp versus the 103 > SUT> MM of the preamp. I never plugged the SUT in the MC of the Giscours and of course won't do it. It is starting to sound really good now with the star ground and moving the A23 from the back of the Giscours to a dedicated shelf far away from any PSU or PC.... Actually the improvement in dynamics is very palpable. Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado

Whether or not in the long term the sut /mm is better than the mc stage, only you can decide. Have fun finding out |
