Default Anyone using TW acustic 10.5 ?

Hi guys,

Anyone using the 10.5 ?

I am choosing a cart for this arm and wondering what goes well. I read that koetsus arent a happy match but im not sure if theres any truth in that.

I like a rich, full, lush sound with some warmth and slightly on the romantic side but still precise with impeccable timing. I dont like analytical and mechanical or too much leading edge emphasis.

I was thinking benz lp s (might be too heavy) or maybe the shilabe or blue angel mantis ? Would love to try a koetsu though if they work.

Grateful for any tips. Cheers.

Allaerts MC1 mk2. I owned it and used it on TW arm. Excellent match with your requirements. I upgraded MC2 Finish. Even better but more neutral but still romantic.

Thanks guys

Daz, do you do the trick of disconnecting the tonear cable until amps and phono stage are fully powered up ? And do you change the VTA for different records ? It sounds quite picky in tems of setup and looking after it ...

Lotus,
Absolutely not. I just listen to music. The cartridge is easy. No issues. On the other hand my Schroeder arm needs adjusting every so often as the settings wander. The Allaerts hasn't been fussy at all. I have it connected to 2 different phono stages. The only I do is power off the phono before disconnecting the tonearm cable.

I second the Allaerts Cartridges - I use an MC1B and would choose it over many other carts I have owned or heard, including Lyra Kleos, ZYX Universe, Dyna XV1-S, Shilabe, Kondo, VdH Goldfinger. The Allaerts has a great balance of detail and tonal richness. It has a refinement that many of the mentioned cartridges are missing IMO.

I use the Allaerts with a Schroeder arm as well.

thanks guys

i managed to pick up a new mc1b mk2 thats just been checked over by Jan

Daz, I dont quite understand you because you say that the cart isn't picky but then at the end you also say that you do diconnect the tonearm cable. I don't really want to be disconnecting the phono cable everytime I have to listen to music or close everything down personally. Did your post mean that you power down the phono stage IF you disconnect the tonearm cable to plug the deck into your other phono stage ?

That said, I have spoken to Jan and he says my phono stage is used a lot with his carts and does not kick back at all so should be fine (Tron seven). So here's hoping.

Lotus,

Congratulations. Great choice. I only disconnect the cable to change between phono stages. Never ever otherwise. I power down my amp, then preamp then phono. That is the rule. I would never disconnect the phono cable if the phono preamp is on.
