I'm convinced the MEN220 would be a superb complement to your system!

Would the MEN220 be an alternative to room treatments or would it not produce the same effects and benefits?

You should do room treatments as much as possible. The better you mak the room before electronic room treatment, the better the results you'll get.

You are now also free to place speakers close to a wall and still have the same image as if the speakers were set out in the middle of the room.
As far as the digital conversion if you are a digiphobe MEN is not for you. MEN220 will maintain a very high level conversion of analog to digital and back again which will not effect your analog sources.When using the MEN220, If you hear an increase in echo or reverb this has to be in the recording but was masked by the room colorations of your speaker's output.

Has anyone tried the MEN220 prior to an integrated amplifier via the XLRs.

I was thinking USB DAC --xlr--> MEN220 --xlr--> MA6600 integrated.

I guess I don't see a reason why this wouldn't work. Anyone?

Karl.......The main issue with that approach on the MA6600 is only the analog output of the DAC will benefit, and no other inputs on the MA6600. The best place to install the MEN220 is in the MA6600's preamp Out/amp In loop.

Dan:

That makes sense. Assuming all of my sources run through the DAC, I wonder what the optimal connection would be: high drive fixed output xlr into the MEN220, or post-volume control rca/preamp out.

??

Yes, Dan has it right with the MA6600. Discussed in an earlier thread concerning same with input from Ron C.

Karl.......If all your sources are connected to the DAC, the fixed output to the balanced inputs would be fine. There is a menu selection in the MEN220 that sets it up for a fixed or variable input, in other words a line level input or a variable input. I still suggest the preamp/amp loop on the MA6600 is the ideal insertion point for the MEN220.
