MCD1100 + D150: An ideal combination?
I am considering the D150 again. I had purchased and then changed my mind. My buddy Fritz Curtis has the D150 and seems to like it and I believe him.
I have no interest in the 450t, why? Both the MCD1100 and D150 have the DIN ports. Is this a marriage made in heaven? Last edited by jdandy; 04-08-2015 at 05:57 PM. |

It would be an interesting experiment. Mcd1100 DAC vs D150 DAC. Older vs newer DAC implementation. The D150 offers access to DSD files via your X100 server or NAS. That would be one benefit. It's gonna be tough to beat MCD1100 DAC.

Can a moderator adjust the MCD100 to MCD1100. Thanks.
@David.. a factor here is DXD & DSD files vs SACDs. The D150 can do all currently available, digitally encoded, formats when you include a MCT450. Perhaps use the MCD1100 for physical media and the D150 for non physical media? |

The main reason I can see is downloadable DSD. The quality of the D150 compared to the 1100 is comparable, IMO. You get a five dollar savings over purchasing the actual SACD but there is definitely advantage in actually possessing a disc over a less safe computer file. When I bought my 1100 I was also considering an expensive ML CD player (15,000.00). I knew nothing about computer audio and the dealer down played the advantages of the 1100. The 1100 is a classic piece. I am so glad to own one.

@Charles...
Good points. I think the catch here is if one could detect the difference* between DSD and PCM. I support all music in all formats, but with classic rock albums or classical albums that are originally analog** it will be a tough head to head comparison. Otherwise both are relevant and both are king. *Using Jriver (mac/pc) and transcoded their DSD to high bit rate PCM "on the fly"/live OR transcoded offline from DSD to PCM using XLD (Mac). **Analog Tape Tech specs Last edited by o0OBillO0o; 04-09-2015 at 11:48 AM. |
