APPJ (Miniwatt N3) 'wunder' amp
Honestly, I don't know how 3.5 watts and $189 could sound this good, but it does. It's also driving Revels, for goodness sakes! It doesn't get very loud, but its got bass! Unbelievable. It sounds like a more transparent version of my old McIntosh MC250 with tighter bass. The soundstage isn't as big as when the CJ pre is in the system. You can find this little gem on eBay; it's almost free for this price. Nice, cheap SET sound.

There's a mod to bypass the volume control and use your own preamp. The built in volume control is not supposed to be very good and those who have bypassed it RAVE about how nice it sounds as just an amp w/o the attenuator. 10X better bypassed.
They also sell upgraded tubes. Last edited by joeinid; 09-13-2012 at 04:52 PM. |

HEY!! Hahahahahahaha!! I should have guessed you'd already tried it out! So cool.
Aha! Naturally, I lack the ability to do that mod. Um, I was thinking I'd only do tube-rolling with it if the CJ amp turns out to be a disappointment: in other words, not likely. I think I'll stick it in a bedroom system somewhere.

I still have mine and have not done the mod or rolled tubes yet. It's a cool little amp.
