Default Ping Joeinid: DarTZeel NHB-458 review in Stereophile

Joe,
You should pick up the current issue of Stereophile....there is a review in there of the Dart NHB-458 monblocks that is over the top. Fremer says they're the finest amplifiers he's ever heard. Sounds like an amazing set of amps...

Thanks Stephen,

I brought the magazine with me. I need to laminate it before I read it. Hmmmmmm. I hooked up my Dart 108 last night. I am not sure if I should say how I really feel, but I absolutely love my red and gold beauty. All I need to do is figure out how to get a pair of the 458's. Or at least another 108. Maybe I'll list the 911mk3's and keep the 108

I read the article. As he notes all of the "premium" amps he has recently tested have strengths in certain areas. In the end it depends on which attributes you are looking for in any piece of gear.

I sure would like to here the 458's but I think I have allocated enough of my audio budget for amps, an additional 100k is not in the cards. That would be better spent on speakers in my mind.

I'll have more thoughts when I've read it but I think another 108 would be more than enough for my "needs". That and maybe the Dart preamp :

I got totally confused...sorry, Joe, I forgot you had this amp, I was remembering you had the NHB-18 preamp for some reason...you've got too much gear for me to keep track of!

Ha! Me too. Seriously, I am starting to think about what's making me happy gear wise. I really love the synergy (for my taste) of the TAD CR-1's with my Dartzeel amp. The Dart sounds really good with the 077, but then again, to my ear, I like the Dartzeel better with my GAT. I love the slightly warmer than neutral tone of the Dartzeel-108/GAT/TAD combo. It just sounds more natural to me. I am sure different speakers will yield different results. A little more power with another Dart amp would probably be the ticket.

Joe, I think the very revealing TAD will work better with the slightly warmer CJ GAT/ART combo.

Tommy,

Do you work on commission? Ha! That would be very nice and something to think about .
