Try this restaurant, it's AMAZING and not pricey at all, well known at NY. (read reviews)

The 9-11 Memorial is a must see. Last fall you had to purchase tickets ahead of time, not sure if that is still the case.

Food? NYC is probably one of the top spots in the US; you name it, it has it (only other three that can even try to compete would be SF, LV, and Chicago).

Any preferences or parts of town you want to check out?

If there is a comedy on BWay, check it out; every one I have ever seen has made me almost have wet pants by the end. And if there is anything going on at Lincoln Center - always a good evening up around those parts.

What type of food, what do you like to do, what interests do you have?

You do need to get tix for the 9-11 memorial...they're free, though. You can get them ahead of time at the website for the memorial (http://www.911memorial.org/), and I'd suggest that to save time. It was a powerful visit, but, in retrospect, I would spend my time on other things and wait to see it when it's easier to access. For us, it involved long lines waiting for tix, then waiting for the time slot of our tix, then waiting 45 minutes in the security line...I don't mean to be disrespectful, but if I had to do it over, again, I'd wait until it's a little more accessible. Of course, I'm close, so I can run back up. Visiting from farther away, I'd be more tolerant of the time investment, perhaps, and getting the tix ahead of time, you'll save the three hours we wasted waiting to get into the security line. One point of note...do not buy the "tribute" books the guys are hawking on the streets around there...they're junk. Powerful pics (that were, undoubtedly, ripped off), but when you start to read through, the books are filled with so many egregious typos that it makes you feel as though you just gave money to someone/something that shouldn't have been supported. There is an official shop where you go to get the tix, so I'd buy stuff there. FYI, we were there about two months ago.

Last time up, we found a great Italian restaurant on West 54th right across from MOMA (Museum of Modern Art)...il Gattopardo ilgattopardonyc. We hit it by accident for a late lunch...loved it so much we went back for dinner 2 1/2 hours, later!

If you like cookies, seek out Levain Bakery (74th & Amsterdam)...they are a MUST if you're a cookie eater. Each cookie is about six ounces... Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip « Levain Bakery

Okay, those are just a couple of my thoughts...enjoy!

I would recommend not staying in Times Square or Mid Town. It really is the worst part of Manhattan. I personally love the West Village, Soho. I work two blocks from Times Square and I try to avoid it all costs.

Just my two cents.

Well, Fifth Avenue should pretty much cover the high end. There's also a department store called Century 21 for the "discount" side with two locations in Manhattan (one not too far from Levain bakery's cookies! ). I can't stand the place, but a lot of people love it. Stores Downtown at Century 21 (this location is closer to 9-11 memorial).
