I agree. I don't care for "most" black gear. It looks so 70's or 80's.

My dealer is trying to get me one to try. Gonna need a crane to get it home.

It's actually not a classic stereo. My dealer gave me a master power 3. Same thing, we think.
First thoughts...much more authority, slam, and clarity. For loud rock...no comparison with my ref 75. It kills the ref 75, even though the ref goes quite loud with only 10 watts. But turn the volume down and play some folk or acoustic guitar...it does become difficult to choose. There is a slightly magical quality to the ref 75 at normal volumes and acoustic music. I have a week to figure this out. It won't be easy. |

Using it in two channel mode should essentially be the same as a Classic Stereo, the main difference being the Master Power amps have switchable crossover filters to make biamping easier. Last edited by BillK; 10-29-2015 at 03:23 AM. |

Might running both be feasible? |

Well, I am running kt150s, which gets me part of the way to an SE. I am quite sure that no ref 75, se or not, will beat this monster amp at bass control. It grips my Wilson's in a way I've never heard. I might be giving up a little midrange magic though. Need more listening.

I'm still conducting serious research...but here are my thoughts.
Disclaimer:The master power 3+ should be equivalent to the classic stereo, which is ultimately what I'd be buying, but the MP3+ is what my dealer had. The dag wins in these categories: bass control, resolution, soundstage depth, speed, dynamics The ref75 wins in these categories: richer midrange, soundstage width Neither crushes the other in any category, save one: the D'agostino bass control improvement is significant. I have a JL Audio sub that I was using to prop up my system with the ref75, but there is absolutely no need to use it with the D'agostino. Right now, I'm leaning towards replacing my beloved ref75, which surprised me. The ref has kt150s in it, and actually replaced an mc452 a few years ago! I love my ref75! |
