Bob, I think you’re our resident headphone guru, I’ll be interested to see what you think of the Empyreans.

I'm looking forward to trying them. I don't have my good electrostatics in Greenland because the low humidity and ESD concern me.

The other ones I really want are the RAAL.

I look forward to sharing my results.

PS Spirit Torinos are very bass heavy and disappointing to me; these are compared to the Abyss and Focal Utopias I have up there.

Default Sorry to hsve to admit this, but...

I fell off the well-intentioned build-a-rack-and-that's-it 2021-goals-and-plans wagon when the right channel blew on my Sonographe SA250 bedroom-system amp and I had to decide whether to try and have it repaired or hunt for a replacement. Then an online ad for this turned up:

It's a twin to the MF2500 that's powered my living-room system since I bought it new two decades ago. This one was advertised as "used," but its pristine condition (save for a microscopic paint scrape on a heat sink fin) and that of its original shipping carton and packing material as well as the unfilled-out warranty card still in its mailing envelope addressed to Fairfax, VA suggest that it was unboxed to make sure it worked and then returned to its carton as open-box NOS.

After about 50 playback hours to date, its presentation is still "opening up," but is already a marked improvement over what I heard with the SA250. So I suppose I can call this a case of turning lemons into lemonade.

Thank you bart.
Its a really nice upgrade from the Dr. Feickert Woodpecker and SME 312s arm. I use the same pickup Dynavector DV20XL.
After playing a few days the impressions are:
More crisper and clear midrange and tweeter. Greater controll and thighter woofer. I suspect the air floating at both arm and platter are a huge controbution to more details comming further out in the soundpicture.

So, Its more fun to play vinyl now [emoji3]

Default Audio goals & plans for 2021

My 2021 started out with a Shunyata Hydra Sigma S12 power distributor— for which Ivan snuck in a year-end order to beat the most recent price hike. Comments on the S12 will be later on a more appropriate thread.

Met with electrician today. I acquired a new room when my daughter got herself a job in Manhattan graciously removing herself from my payroll (ok, 80% removing herself from my payroll plus I still pay for her dog’s pet insurance). So in the next week or two I will be able to feed the new Shunyata and other things from 2- 20 amp dedicated circuits. Just starting to think about speakers and figuring out where I want to with them. For the moment, though, 2021 has been all about POWER!
