Default Suggestions for streaming music from mog

I probably shouldn’t open up a new thread without doing more research on my own but here goes…. I am thinking about trying to set up streaming music from mog. My access to the internet is only by using a Verizon MIFI hot spot. The reason for this is I live out in the boonies. I need something to be able to connect wirelessly to the MIFI that would connect back to my audio system. I do have an Apple Airport Extreme wireless router with the Bryston BDP-1 connected to it. My first attempt connecting the Aiport Extreme to the Verizon kind of worked but I couldn’t talk to the Bryston BDP-1 using MPAD on my iPad (that maybe an IP address issue in MPAD that I over looked). I was thinking maybe I could us a Logitech Squeeze box touch but as I found out on AA here, those are not being made anymore. I watched the cost go from around $400 dollars to $900 dollar just over Christmas. Somebody is trying to make a profit on the couple that remain for sale. My Bryston has 10 internet Radio stations. I guess I should look to see which ones they are. Maybe Mog is one of them. I just read the Bryston does not stream music over the home network. Scratch that idea. Are there any lower cost streaming music players that could play Mog’s stream at 320 kbps? I do see that Sonos can handle streams at 320kbps but could I get out on the internet with the Verizon MIFI using Sonos?

Thanks for any suggestions

~Mike

A barebones Mac Mini running MOG via web browser. Fully controllable by iPad or another Mac.

I would buy a SonoS Connect box and you will have the option of using your MOG subscription to listen from either the analog or digital output of the SonoS connected to your audio system. If you system not near your router then in addition to a $349 Connect you will need a $49 SonoS Wireless Bridge.

Since your MiFi is just a wireless hotspot you might have difficulty getting SonoS to work as at least one piece has to be connected to a router via a physical network cable connection. It can be done, but it gets a little more tricky, depending on your "geek level"

It looks like your Airport Extreme has ethernet ports on it, which is a plus here. If you can get it connected to your MiFi, then you would connect a piece of SonoS (either the Connect or Bridge, depending on where the Airport Extreme sits) to it.

It gets confusing, hopefully this made some sense, if not I can try to clarify.

Thanks mbovaird, Jim and stollen for your input. In my fiddling I was able to get the Apple airport Extreme to update its firmware going out the Verizon MIFI. So if I can get that set up again, you are saying I should be able to plug the
Sonos into one of the Apple Ethernet ports and it should find its way out to the Internet? The digital output would connect to my Bryston DAC. The Sonos would give more flexibility than the MAC Mini. I'll have to read up on the MAC Mini's features. It sure is a nice compact size.

Yes. A good test would be to get the Airport Extreme up and running then plug a laptop or computer into it's ethernet port (disable wireless on the computer you plug in) and see if you can get to the internet. If you can then the SonoS unit should be able to as well.

I took another whack at setting up my Apple Airport Extreme to access my Verizon MIFI. I can get the Apple to connect but the MYFI only gives out one IP address to the Apple and nothing is passed down to the devices I have connected to the RJ 45 ports on the Apple. I was reading on the internet that a company called Cradlepoint has wireless router that are made for this type of thing. I emailed their tech support. I'll see what they say. Maybe the Mac Mini will do what I'm trying to do. I will take a closer look at that also.

I just bought a Sonos Connect and bridge, should be here Wednesday...Then it's time to stream MOG...

So far very happy with the MOG account via bluetooth into the Kenwood 9990 stereo in the truck...
