If you haven’t set up speakers using Masters for 7 years, what process are you using instead and why did you switch away from Masters?
The Wilson WASP method is more appropriate for Wilson's speakers. Adjustable time arrival alignment is based on listening distance and ear height. It eliminates the rake and azimuth adjustments used in MASTERS. It also precisely documents each potential position so it is easier to make complex placement decisions.

That said, as long as i ignore Step 4, I could essentially get to a proper position with Wilsons using MASTERS. It would just take much longer.

But why would I want to dance with that damned horse yet again?

I’ve read on other descriptions of the Masters method (on other sites) that the speakers should be pulled out into the room facing directly forward not toed-in as it is described in this thread.

Is there an advantage or disadvantage to toeing the speaker BEFORE you pull the speaker into the room?

That instruction is incorrect. It does not follow the MASTERS process. I can assure you that no one at Sumiko ever taught anyone to set up speakers without toe.

Let me clarify. I've seen two different write ups on the MASTERS process.

1) With the speaker against the front wall, toe-in the speaker to approximately 18" behind the listening position and then move the speaker out from the wall maintaining the toe-in until the speaker is coupled to the room (best bass).

2) With the speaker against the front wall, move the speaker out from the wall. After finding the spot where the speaker is coupled to the room (best bass) then toe-in the speaker.

Between Option 1 and Option 2, which is the correct MASTERS process?

2) is not an option in MASTERS. It is incorrect and was not ever a part of the MASTERS process.

May be a stupid question but looking for clarification.

1.When he refers to setting the anchor by starting with the left speaker, does he mean that the right speaker should be disabled and producing NO sound while listening only to the left speakers reaction to movements in the room ?

2. Does this setup work for side firing woofers as in the Audio Physics Virgo's

Default Sumiko master set-up process

Maybe Metaphacts will find this but :

1). The anchor as far as I know is simply the first speaker you get set for best bass. The right speaker should not be disabled. I believe most of the instructions I have seen have emphasized that.

You can start with either speaker as the anchor.

2). I am not familiar with your speaker but I do don’t see why not. You are listening to the speaker and the room interaction no matter what.
