The best for my taste are the Raytheon ux 201a. I have 2 pairs, both without hum, noise and not microphone sensitive. The De Forrest looks and sounds great, but just like the blue Arcturus, it's too good to use. Cunningham 301a sounds very nice. No problems with it. The Philips 509 sounds warmer and has a bass that is too soft and full for my taste. The Ken Rad 71a is great. Sounded more perfect, but a little quieter. I have to turn up the pre further. Of the 2 pairs of Sylvania 01a ST, 3 tubes are good, one causes a hellish hum

Always thought you were from the NE of Pairs - CDG is the Charles de Gaulle airport (we fly into/out of fairly often).
