MX170 - Brand New and Broken

Happy Memorial Day all!!!

Finally had a chance to unbox and setup my new MX170 I purchased last year and took delivery of in late December. Renovation of living room space, so no need to even try till now...

So, finally unboxed it, plugged it in, and....... NOTHING! Front panel does not light up at all. It does make a few clicking noises, then silence. And that cycle repeats every 30 seconds. Through the slats on the top of the unit, there are several red lights illuminated on circuit boards inside. Probably 10 or so of them, and 1 green one. I'm guessing the red ones mean something is really wrong. Pictures attached.

Oh, almost forgot. The Standby light on the front slowly flashes red.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sorry to hear, so disappointing when that happens. Doubtful it will work but simply resetting electronics is accomplished by unplugging and plugging back in. Otherwise get your dealer involved immediately. Good luck.

The common way to let a computer start again.
Did it a hundred times with all kind of equipment. Complicated stereosets, PC's, Macs, Sattelite tuners, phones and so on.
If it doesn't start after 3 times trying there's a real problem and time to contact the dealer or send it back.

Sad. From posts here it seems McIntosh is not doing the best with QC on new equipment.

The red lights are likely just red LEDs which are used to set voltages in various circuits. Same with the green.

With new gear (or new tubes or new whatever) it is always best to set-up and listen to immediately for a few days before putting away.

Restarted 28 times, etc……. Not the first time an A/V piece hasn’t worked straight out of the box from McIntosh. I love their stuff when it works, but really frustrated here….

Let’s see what they say when they answer the phone tomorrow.
