From the time I was 12 and got interested in all things that had wheels and an engine, the motocross bikes had the biggest impact on me. I dreamt of owning one but living in NYC at the time, there was neither a place to ride it nor the funds available.

I also did a paper route, which was not easy in NYC with all the apartment buildings/apartments to keep track of But I did earn some cash and kept buying and reading all the available magazines on motocross and then carefully cut out the pages and plastered them all over my bedroom walls. There was not one spot that remained empty, all the way up to the ceiling. That was awesome! Motorcross wallpaper...

I did buy a nice preowned Suzuki RM125 at 16 after landing a more serious summer job. Learned quite a bit about maintenance and riding and kept the bike upstate NY where I could actually ride it on trails. Wonderful memories.
We had very similar interests. I did not own a bike until after college, but my best friend growing up raced motocross and had extra bikes. I learned how to ride on a Bultaco Alpina 250. He also had a RM 125 and later a YZ400 with the mono shock. My childhood home was an older home with wallpaper, so mom and dad let me paper my room in color magazine photo pages. I used Elmer's glue. I even cut around the electrical sockets and light switch. I started in junior high and didn't finish until high school. Here's the only photo I have of the room. This is a wall that slanted up to the ceiling.

No doubt all petrol heads/motorcycle enthusiasts come from the same planet Too funny!

By the way.... I picked up a Thruxton RS the other day. It was love at first sight, what a fun bike!

Congrats on the Thruxton RS. Beautiful looking bike. I hope you get to enjoy many miles riding it. I seriously considered one of the new Thruxton R's when they came out, but decided against it as I had the 2014 Thruxton and a Ducati Paul Smart LE with Zard exhaust that had a similar look. I no longer have the Thruxton, but still own the PS. Your new RS version is even better than the Thruxton R I was considering. Again, congrats!

Thanks! It is a gorgeous bike but the engine and the gearbox impressed me the most with a swiss-watch like precision and smooth and torquey response that rockets the bike forward in the most pleasing way. Ohlins and Showa adjustable Suspension, Brembo brakes and very dialed in geometry, all work in tandem for a very entertaining ride. Not that uncomfortable either.

Beautiful bike.
The forerunner of my R100CS which I posted in #420 of the "Show Us Your Motocycle" thread (along with my original Triumph T100R). Always felt the R100CS was too 'leisurely' in its approach to motorcycling. The only BMW I've owned (though my brother owned a Simpson and his original '70 R75/5 until last year).

Thank you! When I bought my first motorcycle in 1983 I was considering both the BMW R100CS and the R100RS. My childhood best friend had bought a R100RS in 1982 so ultimately I decided to go with that bike. The Red/Black R100CS was a very close second. The R90s is a wonderful bike, but I agree, with it's longer wheel base it is more at home in short to long sweepers and eating up miles at 80mph than really tight switch backs. The Dellorto pumper carbs on the R90s are incredible and I prefer them to the Bing carbs on all other BMW's during that time.

The two Thruxtons are my favorite bikes in that video, with a slight nod going to the MV Superveloce as a beautiful design also. Definitely a more modern design with a hint of retro. My Paul Smart LE would fit right in that bunch if it was currently produced. It is noticeably less comfortable than your Thruxton RS.

Beautiful bike Terry.

I owned a few Ducati bikes. An 848 EVO and a Pikes Peak edition Multistrada. Brilliant bikes but neither developed into a long term relationship. Bikes are like people, you have to click with them and that’s not always easy to put into words. It just is or it’s not… scratch2:

Nice Ducs. I totally agree with you when it comes to clicking with a bike or not. Bikes do have, for lack of a better term, different personalities. I know you get it. For some people, especially people who have never ridden, it's hard to describe when they ask why I have several different bikes. I also like that GT-R rear end in the photo. How do you like it?
