Yes, it was. He spoke very little English at the time, so it was hard to talk to him, but he seemed very pleasant and outgoing.
From 1975-1990 I was a professional recording engineer. I had my own recording service, plus I recorded concerts for broadcast on my local NPR station. I got to record all sorts of famous musicians (in addition to the two artists posted here, I also recorded The Juilliard SQ, Ruth Laredo, Itzhak Perlman, Yo Yo Ma, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Jean Pierre Rampal, and dozens of others.) If I knew I wanted to keep the master tape, then I used my own gear! (Tandberg TD 20A tape deck, Schoeps and B&K mics, and a custom mic pre.) I stupidly sold all of my recording gear in 1990, gave up being an engineer, and became an English teacher! Well, the last part wasn't stupid, but selling all of my gear was! Before I got rid of the tapes, I transferred a few favorites to CD. |

Must be a beautiful way of enjoying the Art (yes, with a capital) we love, and getting close to the Artists. I'm sure they appreciated your work. Yes, too bad your recording equipment is gone!

Yes, since I retired in June, I got to thinking about reviving my recording business, but 1) with so many decent portable devices, there's less call for such services, and 2) I don't think my wife would want me to invest that much money in recording gear again! |

Jan Dismas Zelenka - Responsoria pro hebdomada sancta - Lamentatio Ieremiae Prophetae
Collegium 1704 & Collegium Vocale 1704 Nice works from this Czech composer brought in a very good way by this Czech ensemble. We saw them at work last Thursday and they were excellent. They want to promote Zelenka's compositions, but also bring Bach, Biber, Monteverdi and others. We saw/heard Biber's Missa Salisburburgensis (was coming from all sides in the Concert Hall in Bruges), and Excerpts out of Monteverdi's Selva morale e spirituale & Vespro della beata vergine. There was a standing ovation afterwards.
