I cannot understand this issue as I don't have my music on a server/network, but rather, I have my music on the USB drives. That is the best sound for the BDP-3. It has already been demonstrated that the sound from the USB drives are better than the network so I'll stick to the USB drives knowing I am listening to the sound as best as it can be presented. I don't see why one should settle for less. Regardless, the issues with Manic Moose using network would go into the nothing is perfect category. I'd take the MM interface as is as long as the sound is not compromised.

New interface for 3.14?

The BDP is not just a playback device. It is also a network file server and I have mine configured as such with an internal HDD. There’s nothing inferior about playing files from another network drive either. You’re clinging to revelations made 10 years ago when people were still transitioning from physical media and did not understand anything but the simplest use cases like the USB stick into the front panel. They also did not always use bit perfect protocols for network playback. If there was a deficiency with network playback it would be well known and the Bryston would not be able to hold Class A status in today’s market of NETWORK enabled streamers. Regardless of that the interface is inconvenient for any large library of files whether they are on the network or a local drive. Also many people do not have large collections of files and rely on a streaming service, or a combination thereof. |

AVfile, I may have misunderstood parts of this but check out the below review and you will see what I mean about USB drives. I now have four 512 gb USB drives and nothing is slow about accessing music. All my USBs are used in the rear. I have two front ones but they cannot be used for whatever reason. Have you ever had this issue? My front USBs have never worked.

Interesting but difficult to know if the differences they heard were due to the Roon engine or different hardware interfaces at play (Ethernet vs. USB). The internal SATA connection should have been considered too. Files can also be accessed over the network and played back via MM like local files but you need to have the right protocols enabled. I have used all three interfaces but always with the BDP in the default MPD mode, not Roon endpoint mode. So many variables... but when I migrated everything to the internal drive and the BDP finished indexing the music, most of my frustrations were gone. Open your BDP and confirm that the front USB header cable is firmly connected to the motherboard. They may have forgotten to plug it in during assembly. The same thing happened when I sent my Cambridge Audio streamer in for repair. I just plugged it in myself instead of sending it back. Last edited by AVfile; 03-10-2021 at 11:00 PM. |

Also, Chris from Bryston, sent me what is called a "harness" to fix the two front USB inputs, but I don't know how to put it on as there was no instruction. Are you familiar with this "harness?" |

I do also sometimes use Rigelian, but mainly for internet radio stations such as Radio Paradise, which it gets in FLAC. For some reason, MM can't do that with all the RP channels.

I read that review. The author certainly has a vivid imagination.
