Snake pit synergy.
I had read more than one review that stated the Black Mamba power cables really shinned when all run together. So in the spirit of harmony and synergy I'm now all Black Mamba. Now in place two HC-CX's, one the Luxman 590 and one feeding the Hydra 8. The rest of the gear is powered by CX's (Luxman CDP, VPI SDS, and the Classic 3). I know it's likely overkill on the VPI gear but I wanted everything to match. I've also a spare HC-CX should I ever add a subwoofer. The unit to the Hydra was a DEMO unit and has some hours on it already so but I don't know how many. For evaluation purposes I'm going to consider it, for the most part, broken in.
So the million dollar question, how does it sound? The first thing I noticed was what I didn't hear. The background was a bit blacker and instrument separation is more pronounced. The bass seems a bit tighter and more "musical", if that makes sense. Anyway I'm calling this a worthwhile change on both the auditory and visual scales
