Landscapes: Scarlatti, Schubert, Albéniz & Mompou
Andrew Tyson, piano
Alpha (2019), via Qobuz

A well-chosen and played collection by Tyson. His performance of Schubert’s first sonata in A excellent. Sound is good as well, with considerable dynamic range.

As you can tell, I listen to more LPs than digital media, but after reading so many great reviews of this set, I bought the 24 bit 96 khz FLAC version. I began with the first two, No, 6 and No. 12 (They are not in numerical order). It won't displace my beloved Quartetto Italiano LP set, but it is certainly a vibrant performance, and the sound is quite good, if not as warm as the QI's recording.

I have several of QI’s Philips recordings on vinyl - Mozart, Haydn, Boccherini, Schubert, Debussy - and enjoy them, but have no Beethoven. Guess I’ll have to look for this.

If you like those, then I can't imagine you wouldn't like their Beethoven!

Default What Classical Music Are You Listening To Tonight?

Ivan Ilić Plays Haydn: Symphonies Transcribed by Carl David Stegmann
Chandos (2019), via Qobuz

Here’s a fun recording of Haydn symphonies transcribed for piano in the early 1800s, a common practice before the advent of recording which allowed for parlor performances.

An old recommendation from Julian, the father of this thread:

W.A. Mozart - Complete Sonatas for keyboard and violin - Volume 1
Gary Cooper
Rachel Podger

Béla Bartók - The Six String Quartets
Mikrokosmos String Quartet
SACD-set

This intriguing chamber music never bores...

Despite the cheesy cover, guitarist Eliot Fisk provides some exhilarating performances on this old 45rpm LP from Mark Levinson. I recall that these are unedited takes--he played each piece several times and selected the best ones. Realistic sound, too.

Haydn - Harpsichord Concertos in F and G - Divertimento in F
La Petite Bande, Sigiswald Kuijken
Ewald Demeyere, harpsichord

The ever underestimated composer always delivers!
As do Mr Kuijken and his ensemble.
