I'm giving serious consideration to upgrading to the 14Pro Max. I understand the camera on that thing is really, really good.

Stephen, your pics are fab!

Thanks Freddie, I'm using a 12 Pro, but just cracked the screen so am thinking of a 14.

That's actually what prompted me to get a 13 PM, Tony. I had cracked the screen on my 12 Mini, and it was less expensive to upgrade than to have the screen repaired.

I don't which model you're thinking of getting, the Pro or Pro Max, but jotting down your top few specific requirements will help that decision. For me, as I do commercial photography part-time, having the broader functionality of a wider range of focal lengths of the Pro Max was the deciding factor.

Here's a black and white conversion I did using the Live mode and the long-exposure feature; the iPhone actually performs the time-lapse exposure to obtain the "water blurring" look.

Some iPhone 13 Pro Max RE Exteriors...all handheld, no tripod (which is de rigeur for RE work, usually). Oh, and no sky replacement either (this is really easy to do nowadays in Photoshop and Luminar).

Just to provide an example, here's an RE Twilight shot with a sky replacement done in Photoshop. It uses AI to place the sky, direction of light, luminance, etc. And you can fine-tune all this in PS. These clouds and sky color were not there in the actual photo.

More great pictures Stephen.
Re new phone requirements, fitting in a shirt pocket is essential for me, so no Max - it'll be the Pro standard size.

That is a requirement I can relate to, Tony.

Hey Stephen - great photos.(it is Chris BTW, not Craig; no big deal).

Was the blurred water w/o tripod? That is really impressive either way. Photos like that separated the men from the boys in old-school photography.

The photo of the home dominated by the garage is very similar to our first CA home (no worries, different house number) and we were required to have clay roofs in those days (1990's) - metal wasn't where it is today.

Last question: what is sky replacement? a more dramatic sky?

The water in the creek was flowing and the photo was taken without a tripod. If you put the camera in Live mode, one of the processing results it will produce is a "long exposure". So, it takes multiple frames and then blends them to produce the motion blur.

Sky replacement is where another image of a sky is placed into the "base" photo layer as another layer, then blended and matched for exposure (Photoshop supports working with many layers, which you can use to add "content" as another layer, or as adjustments as "adjustment layers"). As you may well know, we don't get much in the way of clouds in California, so we often do a sky replacement (from a library of sky stock photos) to add some interest to the photograph. You can also flip the orientation of the SR so that the direction of where the light is coming from is correct, geographically-speaking (e.g. from the West at sunset).

Cheers, Chris.
