Back to streaming, with another 'new' release:

Chopin - Piano Concerto No. 2 - Sonata Op. 65 - Polonaise Op. 3
Argerich
Rostropovich
National Symphony Orchestra of Washington

Qobuz 24/192

I tried to find more details about this fantastic album, only available via download.
It must consist of recordings brought out earlier on different LPs.
Sound and performance are top notch!

Marcel Poot - Symphonies Nos. 1-7
Antwerp Philharmonic, Léonce Gras
BRTN Philharmonic Orchestra
, Hans Rotman
Moscow Symphony Orchestra
, Frédéric Devreese
Belgian National Radio Symphony Orchestra
, Franz André
via Qobuz

Another fine release from this week on Qobuz.
Quite a few from Belgium and the Netherlands this week I see.

I had not listened a lot to this composer before, so it's good to have all his symphonies to compare.
I'm going to listen again.
Interesting music.

The Belgian composer, Marcel Poot, was one of the most striking musical figures of his time, with a spicy compositional style that exemplified his zest for life. His cycle of seven symphonies, the earliest of which show the influence of Ravel, Stravinsky and jazz, reveal a clear preference for Classical balance and non-programmatic form. Predominantly tonal, the symphonies are notable for their rhythmic energy, colourful orchestration and lyricism. Symphonies Nos. 1 and 4–7 are first recordings. © Naxos

The ever underestimated composer always delivers!
As do Mr Kuijken and his ensemble.

This was streaming in the clinic today.

Jim, listening to the same album.
I usually like the 'American Classics' series.

On Qobuz, it has this cover:

Do you have an idea when it was recorded?

A short album, but it contains 2 nice pieces!

Listening again to this EP.

This was playing in the practice today.
Performances that equal those of Rachel Podger.

Mozart reigned again in the clinic!

Nóvak: Orchestral Works, Vol. 1
Moravian Philharmonic, Marek Stilec conducting
Naxos (2020), via Qobuz

Interesting music, well performed. David Hurwitz describes Novak’s music as “... heavily nature-inspired, often dreamy, although with more muscle than Delius’ (everyone has more muscle than Delius!), and of course a healthy dose of Slavic melody for good measure.

Still, his sophisticated, late romantic harmony and orchestration might take you by surprise, as in the South Bohemian Suite, which is much more than your typical pastiche of folk tunes.”
