Which McIntosh Amp for SabrinaX
Not an owner yet but getting close - I was wondering if anyone is using a McIntosh amp with the SabrinaX - I was planning on using my MC452 but when I demo'd the speakers the dealer was using a 160 watt amp and it made me think
My room will be 5,000 cubic feet (23 x 25 with 9' ceilings) open kitchen / dining/ living room - Use would be split between music listening, Grand Kid xBox and Family Television viewing - I wouldn't be doing ear shattering volume - If I pair it with the Watch Center and some surround ceiling speakers maybe the MC205 would be enough .... anyone using a similar set up? |

I test drove original Sabrinas with an MC275 and an MC352. The tubes were significantly better than SS

Find a pair of the most recent MC75s. Worth trouble/wait to find a pair.

The MA12000 would be a great choice as well.

Thanks but the system will be doing split duty ... half listening to music .... half watching movies and playing Roblox with the grand kids - It's got to Multitask - LOL
Enjoyed my tube rolling phase but been there and done that and stereo amps leave me 3 channels short - The SabrinaX speakers sound great and I'll be driving to the showroom in a few weeks withe my MC205 in tow and will audition them .... if that doesn't work I'll use my MC452 - It's a win win situation Either way looks like they'll need sub support .... so I'm checking out the Rel S/812 Thanks for everyone's help and I'll post when things are finalized |

Yes--Sabrinas definitely need sub support. Ethereal midrange and high end, but they will not reach much lower than stand-mounts. Looking forward to your report!

all2Ears, I certainly believe that a subwoofer can improve your sound. However, I believe a Mac 1502 the minimum tube amp for the SabrinaX. I do not believe a Mac 275 adequate to get the best out of the speaker. It's sensitivity is rated at 87 dB. If played loudly I think the SabrinaX would easily clip a Mac 275. I think you need a clean 150 watts of tube or 300 watts of SS to adequately drive this speaker. Before I bought a sub I would adequately power the speaker. But I know you don't need me to tell you this. Good luck on your purchase.
