RIP Rush, a "companion unobtrusive" who was a pioneer, spoke truth to power, and while not perfect, kept a sense of humor and an optimism. An optimism that, while by no means unique to Americans, is an essential element of our character. My wife grew up in a family as it suffered greatly under a communist regime, and I think that made her enjoy listening to him even more than I usually did.
