I'm sure you're correct about the technical advantages of a full frame (FX) sensor, but I get excellent performance from my D-300, and I really like the extra "reach" I get with the 1.5 multiplier factor that makes my 200mm lens have the 35mm equivalent field of view of 300mm.

I suggested the D90 (okay, it's $100 over $1k, but it's definately worth the extra bit of money...)
True, the D700 is $1000 more expensive than the D300 (which is weird, btw, here in Belgium, you can get a D700 for €1800, and the price difference with the D300 is "only" €550)
I too liked the 1,5x crop factor of the DX sensors, but I often shoot portrait photos, for those I either use a 70-200mm f2.8 lens, or a 50mm f1.4 lens, and the crop factor came in slightly unhandy there...
I prefer the 'bigger' view of an FX sensor, but I definately understand why for general photography, a DX sensor would prove handy in some occasions...
That said, both are really good cameras...
Keep them spinning,
Bert.
