I'v been listening to some different Western Electric systems from the mid 1920 and forward and they have got important properties that normal modern system don not have. Their effortless produced music and big soundstage is hard to beat. I have never heard a more live sounding system.
Carl, I felt that my midrange panels were deteriorating. I thought I could hear distortion in the ribbons in the right channel. I spoke to Mr. Nudell several times and was quoted 25K to restore both panels. I did not think this unreasonable. However, the subwoofers were also going into their second decade. I decided to switch to McIntosh (my love) that resulted in my XRT 30's then later on my 1.2KW's.

I never felt the XRT 30's the speaker the Gen II's, although it was a fine speaker. I used a Krell MRS subwoofer with the XRT 30's to get the extremely low bass of the Gen II's. The panels of the XRT 30's could not match the smoothness of the Gen II panels.

Nothing SS I have seen has matched the Krell FPB line. The FPB 700 had a 6KV power transformer, ran pure Class A, had no filter storage capacitors, and special high power custom output transistors used in pairs, it had twice the usual number. It will never be made again.

Best
