Update on the BDP3 recognition:

After delving further into Firewall settings, the BDP3 is now visible by Roon.
The laptop is handling the core and local music files on the same internal SSD and all is linked via WiFi.

This set up is most likely not the most efficient; a lot of heavy lifting by the laptop and WiFi.
A separate server for Roon and a separate SSD for the music files on a wired connection may produce better SQ. For now, I can utilize Roon through the BDP3 and then make a decision.
