Thanks! So both players use AKM chips, but I think the Pioneer uses AKM4490.
I'd prefer the Pioneer. However, the Pioneer appears to be coming off the market. It's not listed on their website, only a couple of firmware updates are there. If I wanted another player, the Panasonic might be the only game in town. If I decide I want to get the Pioneer and none are to be found, I can always save the money, set my current players to "Source Direct," and let the TV do the processing.
