I have to disagree, at a friends place.... Magico S5, ASR amp, the OPPO 105 knocked the socks off an Accuphase CD player... now it was an older model 500 or 600. I believe if OPPO had a machined aluminium chassis and cost 20x the price everyone would be going gaga over it. I remember when "made in Japan" = c**p, nowadays everything is made in China, and a lot of it is top class. Maybe Ayre stuffed the OPPO feeling the need to modify it?
Unfortunately many judge quality on retail price. I have an Atlas, because I can hear the difference on Vinyl, but I swear by My OPPO on CD/SACD. Just look around at how many hi-end systems have the OPPO as the cd source...quietly without fanfare just there
