One of the things that concerns me about using Windows 10 as the OS for a music server is the forced updates Microsoft constantly pushes without users being able to accept or reject the updates. I have a sense of frustration over the future performance of the server from not being able to control what Microsoft decides to download on the SilenZio and how it may impact the server's operation and/or functionality.
Necessary is a very strong word. For long-term use, I would absolutely say it is necessary. Over time, the read/write performance will degrade.

There are no advantages of 2x2TB vs 1x4TB. Also no issue with any non-RAID SSD. A Silenzio with internal storage would still have a separate SSD for the OS & Apps, that way you have max storage space perfectly clean and easy to find/figure out on a separate physical drive (instead of just a separate partition).

Windows 10 will force updates silently. You do have some capability to manage it when digging through settings, including rollbacks. I'm not too concerned with the auto-updating feature in its present condition, and I've had no troubles with the Bryston USB driver on an up-to-the-minute patched system.
