The DAC is where the "rubber meets the road". The music server is certainly convenient but I am not sure if there is much of an audible difference to be squeezed out of it. I certainly could not discern much of a difference between an actual CD playing in the Oppo vs the same album on Tidal Master recording from a MacBook Pro through the Gumby. A music server will not make a difference when compared to physical media either. DAC is where it's at.
Of course some would love to sell you a $20K music server that still requires a clock and a DAC after that. I am not saying that is right or wrong! Whatever turns you on!
