Here's my take between the two the CR-1 gets you 85% of the R1. The missing 15% in this case is huge for some and not for others. First it's a more efficient speaker so you can drive it with practically anything,the extra woofer is going to give you more oomph, the R1 is drop dead gorgeous and bad ass looking. Oh yea it weights extra 230lbs extra bracing, when I have these speakers cranked up to the max and I put my hand on the side of the speaker I don't feel one bit of the speaker vibrating. So if any of these traits and a thinner wallet don't mean much then the CR-1 is the way to go. From a selling point for a dealer if you have the R1 and someone says he doesn't want to spend that much money or has a small room then you tell him for half the price I can get you 85% their. My room is 15 X 38.
