You can certainly do that, but you may be making a trade off. You’d be going phonostage>headphone amp>preamp instead of phonostage>preamp>headphone amp, so you might get a quieter signal to your headphones, but noisier to your speakers. try it and see what happens, nothing to lose. If you still aren’t getting enough volume to your headphones, you’ll at least have eliminated the preamp as an issue.
