I don’t think I will upgrade to the Sony WF-1000XM4…at some point in time the battery will indeed die.
A good IEM with external Bluetooth adapter, preferably with replaceable batteries, is a good option. You would lose the ANC and give up a little bit of mobility and convenience though.
