McIntosh surely did a very poor job of communicating what exactly they stuffed in the chassis. When Stereophile reviewed the preamp, the reviewer brought that to everyone's attention and the truth of what's inside has been cloaked in mystery since. I communicated directly with Ortofon and learned the specifics. According to they, the internal SUT was designed to work optimally with their higher end cartridges - compatible currently available cartridges would include Cadenza Black, Per Windfield, A90, Anna, SPU, etc.
