He is a Philips veteran from the 80s, I tend to believe him.
Some parts in hifi devices simply wear out when current runs through them.
He literally said: it might sound better when you always keep your devices running, but it might also mean that it shortens their life from let's say 20 to 10 years.

My dealer in the Netherlands also advised to never turn the Grimm off by the way.
But like I said, I consider Eelco Grimm as an audio guru.
