I reread my post and concluded 2 things:
1) i sounded like a jerk
2) Friends, like yourself forgave my diatribe, showed a bit of empathy and brought me back into balance.

I suspect anyone who has been tinkering with audio for a while has run into frustrations with speaker placement. Stick with it!
