Agree, it's a great complement, but not a perfect substitute in my experience. I have the BCD-1 as well as the BR-20 preamp/DAC/streamer, and though I probably use the streamer (Tidal & Roon) 80% of the time, when I want to sit down and listen to a great recording (mostly classical), I use the CD player.
The difference in sound quality may be small and subtle, but there is definitely one, at least with my setup (which might be a function of Internet speed and other factors outside of the audio system's control, of course).
I hope you're enjoying the BCD-3 by now.
