The visual appeal of your system is an important consideration, and (bucking the trend here), I also don’t find the MT10, with its unnecessarily large base and (to my eyes) gaudy and unnecessary lighting, very appealing at all. If you don’t like the look and your wife is understanding, don’t settle for something you don’t love. There are many great options out there in your price range, including the VPI and Glenn’s earlier suggestion of the Technics and its removable head shell for swapping cartridges.
