Unless something has changed, one can't upload directly to AA, but instead only link to the web address of the hosted file.
The easiest way I've found to post pictures, here and elsewhere, is as follows.
I upload original resolution photos to Flickr. I select the photo I wish to post which brings up another screen with further options and actions for that particular photo.
The "share" option, here, has an "embed" option that gives you a drop down box of different resolutions. The code that this box displays has the web address of the re-sized photo that you can copy and post, here on AA.
It saves work of creating and editing a copy on my phone or computer. I only save the original on my phone or computer if I plan on saving it at all.
