What a fun and timely subject.
I’m also an occasional organ pipes listener, attempting to recreate the total immersion I felt hearing the Passau Cathedral organ, largest pipe organ in Europe.
I tried for years to successfully integrate multiple subs into 2 channel listening. Never got it right. I was never satisfied, always preferring 2 channel to 2 channel & subs.
I finally brought in an expert for a system calibration. I asked him to set me up with both full range and full range with subs. He said he ht bother, once you hear it with the subs you will always want them.
He was right. My answer to the question posed is that subs properly integrated into my system yielded true full range sound. I can’t hear where the L/R’s stop and my 4 subs begin. It’s simply a field of f full range sound. On standup bass it’s still sweet. Detailed. In proper balance. Then, when Han’s hits his low notes or that pipe organ is looking to shake your home’s foundation, boom, it’s all there too!
