Yes..... ceramics are difficult to manufacture, though some of the newer varieties can now be machined. The thicker the piece the more likely it is to have voids. Thankfully, my new hip has a thin ceramic 'bearing area' and will last the rest of my life (10yr and good thus far  ).
I can see owning one eventually. Few other bits & pieces I want first.
