I have recently noticed some diminution of sonic quality in my system with some material (usually classical orchestral in the upper midrange). This past week with the help of my dealer we performed what I call some spring cleaning of the system. A new set of screened McIntosh-branded tubes were installed. Also, new resistors for the tweeter and midrange drivers were installed in my Wilsons and the drivers were tightened. The Yvettes which are fitted with acoustic diodes are now about five years old. The sonics are now in the pink and more 'airy', and the C2700 continues to be extremely quiet and sonically very satisfying. I mention all of this to point out that by my experience the Mc-branded and screened tubes are (usually) excellent.

Happy listening.

Pretty much the same experience here. I replaced all my Mc stock is C22/MC275 with Gold Lions after about 5 years, just because it was time. The bass improved, but it was not dramatic. Had I done only my pre amp, I'm not sure I could have noticed
